Text Files Database

The purpose of our database is for educators to be able to find text files to aid in their teaching and/or personal entertainment and to add value to the Chrysalys website. It is not intended to be a research tool.
Our text database will have over 75,000 entries by December 2005. Educators in all subject areas should be able to find information of value here. You will be able find jokes, proverbs, quotes, riddles, and stories to enhance your teaching.
WARNING:Not all the items contained in this database are appropriate for classroom use. This site is for ADULTS ONLY. We have made suggestions for the level, but each educator bears responsibility for making the final decision for the use of the material in their specific teaching situation.

| NAVIGATION BAR: Under the Chrysalys graphic will be a navigation bar on each page. You have the option to return to this "Text Home Page", "Find Records", "View Record List". The page you are presently on will not be linked. |

Search Engine

CATEGORY: Use the drop down menu to select the category of your search. If you leave this field blank, all categories will be searched.
|
| SUBJECT: We have tried to categorize our entries by subject when possible to help those in search of material by classroom subjects. |
| LEVEL: Searches may be for any specific levels (Adult, Secondary 9-12, Middle 7-8, Primary 4-6, Primary K-3). Individual files may be appropriate for more than one level. |
| GOAL: You might want to narrow your search by indicating your goal for the item. You can be providing an EXAMPLE, using HUMOR, wanting to INSPIRE, need to MOTIVATE, or getting your students/colleagues to THINK. |
| TITLE: For those of you who return and want to recall a specific item by the title, you may use this field to enter key words contained in the title. |
| TEXT CONTENT: You may use this area to enter specific key words to find items. |
| AUTHOR: Items, like QUOTES, may have an associated author and our search engine will allow you to search for those items. |

Viewing Records

Once you have completed your search an Text Record List page will appear.
|
| NAVIGATION: The actual number of hits is indicated on the top right of the list indicating that you are seeing (Records 1-25 of ####). Navigation indicating "First", "Previous", "Next", and "Last" also appear. |
| ORDER OF RECORDS: All records will initially appear in random order. |
| REORDERING RECORDS: The top line of the chart of selected records indicates the information in the columns. Selecting any of these will reorder all the records alphabetically. Selecting a column the first time will set the order to "ascending" and a second time to "descending". |
| TEXT RECORD DETAIL: Each entry has a number in the far left column. When this number is selected, you will be taken to a page that will show the TITLE of the text file, ORGANIZATION (Subject, Category, Level, Goal, and Author), and the actual text file. You may save this page as a text file, copy the text, create a PDF, or print it out (Note: the background color will not print). |
