Biography Database

The purpose of our database is for educators to be able to do special projects for their students and to add value to the Chrysalys website. It is not intended to be a research tool.
We are working hard to include historical figures in all walks of life throughout history. Educators in all subject areas should be able to find information of value here. Not all records may be complete (i.e. contain birth date, birth location, death date). We are using numerous resources to verify the accuracy of the information. Some of the resources have conflicting dates. Rather than leaving the information blank, we used the most authoritative resources at our disposal to select the dates we use. Dates will be less accurate the further back in time the person lived. Keep in mind that the calendar we use today is a relatively recent standard.

FIND QUOTES AND AUTHORS
:This search will find specific authors by name and all their quotes in our database. You may search for the author or the quote. All items have serial numbers to aid the user returning to a specific item. More details on this search can be found on the

Search Engine

NAME: You may type in the FIRST or LAST name or FULL NAME. Use FULL NAME if you are not sure of the first or last name. Remember, if you misspell the name (or if we do) you will not retrieve the record. If you are not sure of the spelling, just put in what you know and the computer will find all matches. If you put in a common name (i.e. "John") be prepared for lots of matches.

| AGE: You can search for people who are older, younger or the same age in years that you specify. |
| DATE: Searches may be for any specific date if you supply if you provide information for "Month", "Day", and "Year" for Birth or Death. |
| PEOPLE IN HISTORY BORN ON THIS DAY: You might want to find who in history has the same birthday as one of your students. Just put in the Birth Month and Birth Day and everyone born on that day will appear. You might want to narrow the search to include only "Authors" from the "Fame" column. |
| BIRTHPLACE: When we are able to get the information, we include a person's birth place. We use the name of the city, state/providence, and nation. US states are abbreviated according to their postal codes and the United States is understood (i.e. Los Angeles CA, London ENGLAND) Nations are in CAPS. When searching for people born in California, type "(space)CA" in the search field for Birthplace and set the search for "Ends With" |
| FAME: General categories can be used to search for people in various fields of endeavor.

| FIND RECORDS: You may indicate if you want the search engine "to find records if any field matches" or "if all fields match". The number of records per page may be set at 10, 25, 50, 100, or Max. The default is 25.

Viewing Records

Once you have completed your search a Biography Record List page will appear.
|
| NAVIGATION: The actual number of hits is indicated on the top right of the list indicating that you are seeing (Records 1-25 of ####). Navigation indicating "First", "Previous", "Next", and "Last" also appear. |
| REORDERING RECORDS: The top line of the chart of selected records indicates the information in the columns. Selecting any of these will reorder all the records either alphabetically, numerically, or chronologically. Selecting a column the first time will set the order to "ascending" and a second time to "descending". |
| BIOGRAPHY DETAIL: Each entry has a number in the far left column. When this number is selected, you will be taken to a page that will give you a short narrative about the person's birth date, birth place, major claim to fame, and either their age today or date of death. We are also linking items in our events database to historical people. If the person of interest has been involved in any of those events, they will appear on this page also. |
